Urine Follow Out When Coughing, What Is The Cause?

Have you ever experienced urination when you coughed? Even though you don't want to pee, but suddenly your pants get wet shortly after you cough. This unintentional event certainly makes you uncomfortable. Then do you urinate when you cough normally? How do you handle this?

Exiting urine when coughing, is it normal?

If you urinate frequently when you cough, then you may experience stress incontinence or stress incontinence. Stress incontinence occurs when urine comes out of the bladder due to increased pressure around the abdominal area.

This sudden urinary condition does not only occur when you cough, but also other activities that cause abdominal pressure, namely

  • Jump
  • Laughter
  • Sneeze
  • Lift heavy objects
  • Having sex

Although it is one type of urinary incontinence disorder, the condition of urinating when coughing does not cause your bladder to release all the fluid in it - like other incontinence.

Urine that comes out due to stress incontinence only occurs in a small amount. This condition is just a kind of 'stress' or pressure experienced by your bladder, so that urinary fluid is accidentally removed.

What causes urination when coughing?

So, stress incontinence occurs due to the muscles and tissues that are part of the bladder and otrot that regulates the release of weakened urine. Under normal circumstances, the bladder will expand when filled with urine, then the bladder cover valve muscles will close until you arrive at the bathroom.

But in this disorder, the muscle weakens and eventually the muscle opens slightly when under pressure, such as bending, lifting, laughing, and coughing.

The pelvic muscles and bladder cover valves may be weakened due to:

1. Delivery

Exiting urine when coughing is basically more common among women, even from this it is dominated by mothers who have just had labor. It was also known that women who gave birth to a baby normally would be twice as high as stress incontinence than women who had a cesarean delivery. Menopause can also make women at risk of experiencing this.

2. Prostate surgery

The procedure that occurs in men makes the valve weaken due to removal of the prostate gland.

3. Other causes

Other causes that can lead to stress incontinence

  • Overweight
  • Disease that causes you to experience chronic coughing or sneezing
  • Smoking
  • Surgical history of the pelvis
