  • Eating too much caffeine can increase anxiety, sleep disorders, and pain in the stomach and head for some people.
  • Drinking large amounts of caffeine during pregnancy can increase the risk of birth defects and miscarriages.
  • If taken with certain drugs, green tea can increase blood pressure and heart rate.
  • Catechins in green tea can interfere with iron absorption from the food you eat.

Then, how many glasses of green tea should be consumed per day?

Harvard Health Publications recommends drinking several cups of green tea every day to get the benefits.

Dr. Zuo Feng Zhang, a cancer epidemiology researcher from the University of California Los Angeles and the University of Maryland Medical Center, said drinking two to three cups of green tea every day can provide various health benefits. This is based on the amount of polyphenols or active antioxidant compounds in green tea.

Other experts suggest that to get 240 to 320 milligrams of polyphenols every day, the recommended consumption of green tea is around two to three glasses per day for healthy people.

Therefore, three cups per day is a reasonable amount for healthy people. However, the dose of drinking green tea does need to be considered because if consumed too much it will cause side effects on the body.

Especially if you have certain health conditions such as insomnia (insomnia), gastric acid reflux (GERD), iron deficiency anemia, and so on. Because the caffeine content may make you more insomnia and stomach acid can be triggered up. While for people who are iron deficiency anemia, most green tea will make it harder for the body to absorb and fulfill iron intake.

So, if you have certain conditions that will get worse with the consumption of most green tea, limit it to just one or two cups a day. You can also consult directly with your doctor or nutritionist for the most appropriate recommendations.
