According to research, people who often play crosswords will have brain sharpness later on. This study involved 17,000 people aged 50 years. This research was conducted by the University of Exeter Medical School and Kings College London. The participants of this study were asked the question of how often they played crosswords. This study used a cognitive testing system, and found that participants who played crosswords more often had better attention, reasoning, and memory than those who did not.

This study also found that the "age" of the brain of someone who often plays TTS is 10 years younger than their biological age. The sharpness of brain function is particularly reported in the speed of grammar reasoning and accuracy of short-term memory. Professor Keith Wesnes from the University of Exeter said that focus, reasoning, and memory skills can be greatly influenced by puns like TTS.

Filling TTS can also prevent senility

Not only that, a study published in JAMA Neurology, activities stimulating the brain such as playing TTS are effective in preventing senility. This study involved 2,000 elderly people with an average age of 70 years.

During the study period, participants asked several questions related to the involvement of the elderly in cognitive stimulating activities such as playing brain teasers such as chess and crossword puzzles, engaging in social activities, to making crafts.

The results of the observation show that elderly people who actively play computers experience a decrease in cognitive damage or brain power up to 30 percent. Meanwhile, those who actively engage in social activities to make handicrafts experience a decrease in brain damage by 22 to 28 percent.

Researchers concluded that elderly people who routinely engage in mental stimulation and sharpening their brains can reduce the risk of cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disorders which may occur four years later.

For your brain to always be honed, you have to fill in the TTS regularly. You can make a target by filling out TTS at least a few days a week or whenever you have free time. No need every day. If you want to be more challenged, try TTS in a foreign language, for example English. Thus, your English vocabulary collection will increase by itself.

Besides preventing senility, what are the benefits of TTS for health?

  • TTS also helps you to discipline yourself. Most TTS takes about an hour to complete. When you start filling out the TTS, you will unwittingly make a mental commitment: sitting for one hour, diligently completing the TTS, without doing anything else.
