Acne in Underarms Is Not Ordinary Acne. Can Be, You Have This Condition

Acne usually appears on the face, although occasionally it can also appear on the back. But if you realize the appearance of a pimple like pimples in the armpit area, this is not an ordinary pimple. Acne in the pharynx is called hidradenitis suppurativa. Is this condition dangerous?

What is hidradenitis suppurativa?

Hidradenitis suppurativa is often mistaken for acne. Both of these conditions do have similar symptoms and signs. Both are in the form of a red lump that feels painful, filled with pus, and can cause scars. However, hydradenitis suppurativa is completely different from acne.

Hidradenitis suppurativa or acne inversa is chronic inflammation in the apocrine gland (one type of sweat gland). Meanwhile, acne is an inflammation of the skin due to blockage of the oil glands.

Hidradenitis suppurativa usually appears in places that are easy to sweat, most often in the armpit area, besides it can also appear in the genital area, groin, chest and buttocks. Another difference between regular acne and acne in the armpit is the size of the lump. Acne due to hydradenitis suppurativa is usually larger in size with pain such as blisters and can develop into abscesses (pus-filled sacs).

Hidradenitis suppurativa is chronic and relapsing. Over time, the lump can deflate on its own, but it will leave scar tissue, can be a change in skin color to keloids. Usually after recovery, there will be a lump later in the same area.

Who is at risk for acne in this armpit?

This disease usually attacks women more than men. Usually this disease first appears at the age of around 20 years.

In addition, it was found that smoking and obesity can increase a person's risk of experiencing hidradenitis suppurativa. Some sources also pointed out that people who have hidradenitis suppurativa are born from families with a history of similar diseases.

Can this disease be cured?

Until now, hidradenitis suppurativa has not been completely cured. Some treatments for this underarm acne condition can control the symptoms, but no one can really cure it. The reason is that hydradenitis suppurativa is basically a recurring alias that continues to disappear.

Some things that can be done is to set a diet pattern. A number of studies say that reducing consumption of dairy-free products can help alleviate this condition. In addition to dairy-free products, avoid consuming high-sugar and starchy foods as well as can help reduce recurrence rates.

It is important to maintain cleanliness, use loose underwear (to reduce friction with wounds), and compress warmly on areas that are problematic to reduce pain and inflammation.
